Extending and remodelling a Victorian family home

The design to extend and remodel this semi-detached Victorian family home in Fleetville, St Albans, not only improves the spatial arrangement of the house but embeds a host of measures to improve the sustainability of the property.   

 

On the ground floor, the design features a single storey kitchen-diner extension, a new toilet and utility area. At first floor, a small extension, clad in zinc, unlocks the potential to enlarge an existing bedroom and convert the attic to accommodate a third bedroom and a dedicated home office space. 

 

Solar panels have been installed on the south-facing front elevation and a clean fuel strategy has been employed by removing unused fireplaces and chimneys. External insulation, both side and back, has increased the thermal performance and comfort levels of the house for our client and their young family.
