The design to extend and remodel this semi-detached Victorian family home in Fleetville, St Albans, not only improves the spatial arrangement of the house but embeds a host of measures to improve the sustainability of the property.   

 

On the ground floor, the design features a single storey kitchen-diner extension, a new toilet and utility area. At first floor, a small extension unlocks the potential to enlarge an existing bedroom and convert the attic to accommodate a third bedroom and a dedicated home office space. The dormers and first floor extension will be clad in zinc.

 

Solar panels will be installed on the south-facing front elevation and a clean fuel strategy employed which will see the removal of unused fireplaces and chimneys. External insulation, both side and back, will increase the thermal performance of the house and comfort levels for our client and their young family.

 

The proposal has been submitted for planning approval.
