Cunningham Avenue

Remodelling and extension to an Edwardian home

Cunningham Avenue, St Albans, has seen us work closely with our client to address many of the common issues facing large houses that have been altered and extended over the years by various owners.

The house is one of many large detached Edwardian properties in the avenue, which is Locally Listed and in a central city Conservation Area.

With an ad-hoc layout at ground floor level, the house suffers from poor daylight levels and circulation. Our design optimises the use of existing space as much as possible, reorganising the ground floor plan to introduce more storage, a study and a utility room. Opening up the rear of the property, and removing an existing lean-to structure, has allowed for a new zinc clad, kitchen-diner extension to be designed with views of the garden. Upstairs, the attic space will be converted to provide two bedrooms and a shower room.

Our design proposal has been submitted for planning approval.
